How to Pick a Profitable Niche Right

Jan 24

I’m not sure why so many marketers believe that there’s some kind of secret to being successful online. You’d think that there was some kind of hidden manifesto buried in John Reese’s house or something. Newsflash folks…there is no secret. And when it comes to picking a profitable niche, there is no secret to that either. The process itself is very simple. In this article, I’m going to cover the basics of niche research. Follow this basic guide and you should have no trouble finding a niche that is profitable for you as well.

First step in the process is to just pick something…anything. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just find yourself a starting point. Think of things that are commonly sold online. If you’re not sure, go to Ebay and see what some of the hottest items are. After you pick something, go to Google’s keyword tool to see how many searches there are for that niche and its related keywords. Don’t worry, Google will give you a fairly large related list of keywords.

Keyword Research Strategy 101

Dec 10

Keyword research has now become an essential part of a web building process for just about any type of web site. It is no longer enough to just have a fancy looking web site.

In this article, we’re going to go through a basic keyword research strategy. If you’re new to the internet and just about to set up your own web site, this strategy is for you.

  • What are keywords?
  • Keywords are simply words or, more often, phrases that you would like your web pages to be found with, in search engines. If you had a web site about babies, for example, you would want your web pages to appear when someone searches for “baby names” or “baby furniture” etc. You wouldn’t want your web pages to appear in search results for the keywords “fishing rod” or “hunting guide” because a person doing that search will not be interested in your site.

    Choosing Keywords For Your Website

    Dec 09

One of the most important things you can do to increase your website traffic is to spend time doing some keyword research. A lot of webmasters don’t do this, but if you take the time to research your keywords it can mean the difference between success and failure.

Choose your niche. Once you have decided on your niche you can then start to research your keywords. It shouldn’t be too hard to come up with a keyword that describes your niche. For instance if you want to advertise for pest control, your main keywords would be pest control. Not too hard, but the problem here is many other sites are probably already ranked in Google for pest control, so you need to find keywords that are relevant to your niche and still get several keywords a month.

A lot of marketers use the KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index). It isn’t perfect but what it does is figures how much competition you have compared to how many monthly searches there are. The formula looks like this: (S^2/C) which means the number of searches times 2, then divided by the number of competitors. Usually the number is included on paid keyword tools. Not everyone goes by this number because it can sometimes be misleading if there are a small number of searches or competitors, so it is wise to check the actual searches and the actual competitors before you decide on a keyword to target.
